P5 Camp Adventure

For this week monday to wednesday, I did a 3 days/2 night camp with a primary school in the western part of Singapore. As what written in my previos post, I thought pri 5 kids might be easier to handle than sec school kids but I was so darn wrong! Haha

Kids nowaday are so demanding. They have been taught to conduct their own set of thinking and as a result they often challenge your instructions for them. During the first day, I tried to talk nicely to them, hoping they will listen to instructions carefully. On the second day, I gave up. For some, scolding is a must to wake up their idea. The "lazy" me decided that shouting too much will indeed harm my throat and I took a whistle instead to control them. Woe betide anyone who misbehave. I will blow my whistle, point out the troublemakers and give them my killer stare. Most often or not, they are likely to stop any "illegal "stuffs and listen attentively.Hehe. Actually I kind of feel uneasy that we have to resort to scolding them in order to make them listen but kids being kids need to rein into control before they start to climb over your head.

There was this mother who came on the second day of camp to deliver Macdonald to her child. WTF! Can you believe it? Then there were these 2 princess in my group who are quite mature in their thinking. They will ask: "Teacher later are we having mac or Kfc? Teacher later sit down got child anot? Teacher later eat got TV to watch anot? Teacher the food taste horrible I don't want to eat." All these spoilt brats. Singapore future is dead! Haha. Remember our generation? One mean one. Walk mean walk. We are so obedient lol!

But my two princess are also the ones which I can connect with the best because I paid more attention to them. They are quite pretty too. 1 of them could even be a child model lol! When they misbehaved, I immed took out my camera and pointed at them, threatening to take their pictures, which they immed will cowered under the table or cover up their hands over their face.

For the camp, we did hiking, dragon boat and high elements. The kids love them to the core but it also mean a tiring day ahead because I have to belay 20 kids up the element too. Kids still have the mentality of boys 1 side, girls 1 side. cannot anyhow mix around thinking which I find it very comical because they obviously need the help and teamwork of everyone in order to make things work. Therefore sometimes, I have to drag the boys to help the girls and advise the girls to accept the help of the boys.

At times during the camp, I wondered why the fuck did I accept this job with the low pay and long working hours and lack of personal time because you have to be with them 24/7 during the 3 days. But when I saw the kids looking up to me and said" Teacher Teacher" or the look of enlightenment when they understand the meaning of what I am trying to convey, the satisfaction gained is enormous. It actually give me a idea to be a teacher..for goodness sake!
But thankfully, common sense took over. I don't want to die of heart attack dealing with naughty kids everyday lol.

Can you spot 1 of my princess? She is the one on green on the left hand side of the pic. The other one went into hiding..right behind me so she is not in the picture.
