I Cannot Take This Anymore!

1 week has passed since I officially started my on-job-training. It is a monotonous job, a boring routine that I will be performing for the next 1 year and 2 months. I’ve been sent to the various posts to experience first hand how to handle the possible scenario, which may happen while you are on duty. Time seem to come to a standstill while you are on duty because sometimes I have to stand for 2 ½ hrs continuously without any soul interacting with me for some stations. Meanwhile I think I must have aged quite a bit due to the drastic change in sleeping pattern. For the 2 duties I have done so far, I have only managed to catch 5 hours of sleep for each duty day. It is true there are shifts so people will replace you once your shift end but it is not always easy to fall into an immediate deep sleep once you enter the sleeping bunk. Pimples started to sprout around my face. Moustaches seemed to grow faster than ever. Dark eye ring is starting to become part of my facial appearance. I think I’m starting to have a certain zombie look. I didn’t really get to rest very well during my duty off period because the living condition of the bunk is not really that wonderful. It is extremely hot and the noisy workplaces around the base disrupt my sleep very often. I hoped the on-job-training would end soon so that after my duty finished I can travel home to have my well-deserved rest.

I injured my left knee during 1 of the exercise in SSC5. Previously it was right and now it is left. Apparently, the “ACT ACT TERRORIST” tried to shove a FAKE FAKE parang under my throat and so in the name of ‘honour’ and ‘bravery’ I turned around and slammed him over my shoulder but that guy weight more than me and we both land on my left knee. Ever since then, the left knee start to give me trouble whenever I stand too long during duty or whenever I start any exercising. I have no idea what to do now except to wait silently and hope the pain will go away because I am currently undergoing on-job-training and it will not look nice if I see a medical officer and he give me a status sheet to excuse lower limb for a period of time. (Garang and responsible ok!)

So meanwhile during our off duty we were not allowed to book out and thus we have to stay in and rest in preparation for our next duty while the duty platoon get to go home and report the next following day. There is really nothing much to do while staying in. We slept most of the time, waked up for meals, visited the canteen for some light snacks, used computer and watched TV at night. I am bored stiff but again some things cannot be helped. I started to think a lot while stoning around..especially during the night when hours seem so long and it is only just you. It get pretty lonely and I couldn’t really adjusted to this “short-term” lifestyle. I will post another blog to explain what exactly I mean.

The “would-be commandos-very soon” are back. Very soon, Class 24 will have full attendance again if nothing goes wrong. Very soon we shall sing “We had joy we had fun we had Seasons in the sun” Come on everyone..let’s sing together shall we?
