Back Home

I’m back from the chalet.

The chalet is called SAF holiday chalet and it is located somewhere near Change village. It offers a wonderful view of the sea as well as Pulau Ubin and somehow it reminds me of the time I spent at Tioman Island with my poly buddies. Yup, the view is that great with constant sea breeze all day and night long, even in the hot and humid afternoon.

However, being able to appreciate the view also mean there will be a trade off in term of entertainments available. The chalet is damn fucking boring because there are absolutely nothing to do at all except watching DVD and talking cock. Beside, being part of the platoon chalet, we were not allowed to wander around without permission and there were times when I suspect I am being held under house arrest. So much for the scenery, the curfews plus the rules and regulations have to ruin it all.

The façade of Change village surprised me to a certain extent because the changes are quite apparent. The old jetty was gone and a newer, larger, much spacious and better looking design jetty took its place. There is also a man made lagoon if I am not wrong, allowing fishing enthusiasts and couples another perfect hangout. Changi Village still retained its old charm though as a perfect place to spend the afternoon la kopi and wait for time to pass by. The transvestites still remain at their original location, hanging out at car park during late hours. Some of them are really damn pretty but such a pity Tokie rejected all our offers to get one for him despite condoms, cash and room available.

We also visited the US aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan at CNB. It is a super enormous ship with enormous significance attached to it. (FYI, the whole Singapore navy can jump into that single ship and there will still be spaces available available) It hit on me immediately once I step foot on the ship that USA is truly one of the few remaining superpower in the world, as what the many many many planes and helicopters can show testimony to. The officers are very friendly and we were shown around the ship, visiting the ship deck which is at least 7 storeys high as well as speaking to the pilots (male and female included). Such a pity I left my camera behind at the chalet because I thought picture taking are forbidden. Imagine how I felt when the officer said “Take Take Take as much pictures as you like”. KNNBCCB. Bought a Zippo Lighter as a souvenir even though I don’t smoke because it seems weird to leave without buying anything and beside the lady behind the cashier look beautiful with her attractive blue eyes. Hehe

Speaking on which, going back to Changi also mean revisiting the old haunts we used to hang out during our course. Standing at the spectator stand overlooking the parade square and the big blue sea ahead, going back to Blk 215, hanging out in the canteens, walking down the stairs with the metal protective plate on the edge damaged due to the constant shifting of super heavy cupboard and bed frames from 1st to 4th floor and 4th floor to 1st place, you get pretty much the idea what it actually mean to us back then. But then again, it’s all over and no one but ourselves can only understand what the hell we went thru so much for in exchange for something we do not have much use for.

A picture says a thousand words. Click on the flickr badge on the right hand side of the screen to see for yourself what we did during the chalet instead.
